Captain Wesley Stafford

Captain Wesley Stafford began his career in law enforcement in 1997 with the Cheatham County Sheriff’s Department, where he served in numerous roles. Captain Stafford remained with Cheatham County until joining the Tennessee Highway Patrol in 2005. In 2005, Captain Stafford received his first assignment as a road Trooper in the Nashville District, remaining there until becoming a Tennessee Highway Patrol Training Division member in 2011. Captain Stafford was promoted to
Sergeant in 2013 and Lieutenant in 2017. In 2013, Captain Stafford graduated from the Northwestern School of Police Staff and Command Class #344. Once promoted to Lieutenant, Captain Stafford served as Assistant Director of Training, serving in this capacity until his promotion in June of 2018 to the rank of Captain – Director of Training for the Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security (TDOSHS). Captain Stafford oversaw all training for the department as well as training that is offered to outside agencies. In July of 2024, Captain Stafford moved to the agency's Research, Planning, and Development (RPD) division. The RDP division is responsible for creating, designing, maintaining, and managing all agency policy, supporting legislative bill analysis, agency grant management, video evidence management, and the statewide ignition interlock program management. Captain Stafford is a member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) and has sat on the Executive Board for the State and Provincial Police Academy Directors and is currently an active member of the State and Provincial Police Planning Officers Section. Captain Stafford is a published author for the Chief of Police Magazine. Captain Stafford holds a Bachelor’s Degree from Bethel University and a Master's from the University of Tennessee.
